Project

Developing flow reactor system for C-H functionalization, Fundamental understanding of chemisty & physics of CO2 adsorption

To enable an enantioselective C-H functionalization in flow, we are developing a flow reactor system with hollow fiber reactor, where organometallic catalyst is immobilized in the porous fiber wall. This project is based on the supported amine adsorbents to extract CO2 from air. We are going to fundamentally understand the process of CO2 adsorption/desorption at the molecular level by studying ulta-low pressure CO2- amine interactions.

Group News

January 2021-

Four new PhD students join the group!  Anu Osibo will work on depolymerization catalysis and Yoseph Guta will study amine adsorbent stability.  Both will be co-advised by Prof. Sievers.  MinGyu Song will study DAC under unconventional conditions, and will be co-advised by Prof. Lively.  Laura Proano will evaluate catalytic sorbents for CO2 capture and conversion in a single, intensified process.

December 2020-

The group welcomes the arrival of new postdoctoral fellow Pranjali Priyadarshini, who recently completed her PhD at the University of Illinois.

October 2020-

We bid farewell to postdoctoral fellow Dharam Kumar and visiting PhD student Wei Zhou.  We welcome the arrival of new postdoctoral Fellow Gabriel Short, who recently completed his PhD in chemistry at the University of Florida.
